NORWICH,
NY— The facts and figures of a controversial proposal by New York
Regional Interconnection (NYRI) to construct high voltage power lines
from Utica, NY to Rock Tavern, NY will be the subject of a meeting on
Thursday, June 8 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Sherburne-Earlville High
School Auditorium, 15 School Street in Sherburne, NY.
This
vital information will be presented by representatives from the Upper
Delaware Preservation Coalition (UDPC) and is being co-sponsored by the
Chenango County Farm Bureau and the Chenango County Chamber of Commerce.
Residents from throughout the region are encouraged to attend this
meeting which is being held as a public service to help provide citizens
with the knowledge they will need to make an informed judgment about the
value of this particular power project.
The goal of NYRI, a Canadian based
corporation, is to move electricity generated in Canada to a substation
in Orange County, New York, where it would be sold and distributed to
the wholesale electricity network serving the Northeast grid. NYRI will
file with the New York State Public Service Commission for approval to
construct 140-foot towers connected with direct current electrical
transmission lines through 200 miles of fragile ecosystems, farmlands,
historic towns and villages.
